I love fishing.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest – a region that supports so many kinds of angling – you could dedicate yourself entirely to the sport of fishing for a lifetime and never truly master them all.

The joy of fishing, it seems, comes in the pursuit itself. A common recurring lesson to any fisherman.

From crabbing & halibut fishing in the Pacific – to sturgeon and salmon fishing in the Columbia gorge, this channel allows me to showcase to the world my favorite outdoor hobby.

Crabbing Off the Oregon Coast

Beyond just videos of landing fish, I also (briefly) experimented with creating fillet and cooking videos.

Holy Shit. Holy Shit. Holy Shit. That's the biggest halibut I've ever seen landed in Oregon.

GOPRO UNDERWATER VIDEOS

In another life, I could have been a marine biologist. The moment I heard that GoPro camera cases could record underwater I knew I was going to put one on a line and send it down with a baited hook.

Being able to capture the feeding habits of halibut and lingcod 200ft down at the bottom of the ocean satisfies a part of me that is difficult to describe.

And, if you're wondering if I've ever lost a camera seeking this footage, the answer is, unfortunately, yes.

This video reveals some interesting behavior (which we could see repeated in other footage) of halibut ALWAYS ignoring bait and, instead, taking a whack at the camera first.

Not every video ends with a fish taking the bait. Still, seeing the world you're fishing is always exciting.

There's a moment in this video where the camera gets hung up on a rock and breaks free of the rhythm of the swells. When it pans up and sees a school of hundreds of rock fish... it's kind of amazing.

Beautiful footage of a 50lb halibut taking the bair. I've never been able to replicate getting footage with this clarity.

Lingcod are especially voracious and aggressive. This video showcases the many strikes (and misses) filmed in a single voyage.

There is a little fog on the inside of the camera casing - but the behavior of the halibut is interesting. Even after eating the bait - it still made a pass at the camera.

The first underwater video I ever took. Seeing this halibut for the first time is a thill I will never forget.
